OM Schooled is about sharing the joy of yoga with kids ages 4-12. Born and bred in NYC public schools, this training approaches kids yoga with a balance of structure and ease and is good for anyone who wants to teach youth yoga in schools, studios, or privately. We’ve been training teachers since 2008- this is our 3rd training at Light on Lotus Yoga in Los Angeles! (the Mar Vista area 🙂
Structure: we study and learn classroom management, daily lesson plans and curriculum creation, developmental stages and learning styles
Ease/freedom: we connect with the fun and energy that comes with kids yoga. Together we learn all the tools of kids yoga (asana, breath work, meditation, partner work, creative exercises, games) and then practice teach, in order to give participants a comprehensive and innovative teaching toolbox. There are no prerequisites other than the desire to teach children, a practice of your own and a love for yoga.
-How to structure a kids yoga class, focusing on 4-12 year olds (K-5) with an overview of other age groups ranging birth through teen.
-A dictionary of yoga poses, breath work, kids yoga games and ideas for meditation and relaxation for all ages
-How to develop complete lesson plans and curriculum aligned with state and national PE standards
-Approaching kids yoga teaching as a yoga practice in and of itself! Tips for staying balanced, open, emphatic and effective as a kids yoga leader.
-Ideas for combining yoga with classroom management, key with youth yoga.

Sarah Herrington is the founder and lead facilitator of OM Schooled, a kids yoga teacher, and writer. She began her work teaching youth yoga full time in NYC public schools over a decade ago, leading 5-7 classes a day, 5 days a week for years to kids age 4-12. From there, she created the OM Schooled teacher training which has trained teachers worldwide to share yoga in their communities. She is the author of four books on yoga including The Idiot’s Guide to Yoga, Wanderlust: Find Your True North and OM Schooled, and has written about yoga for the NYTimes, Yoga Journal and Mindbodygreen. She currently helps run the first MA in Yoga Studies at Loyola Marymount University and is passionate about sharing yoga with teachers and caring adults to then go teach more kids!
